Boeing 747-400 TCAS RA Resolution Advisory approaching Hong Kong
One of the skills every pilot needs is awareness of other traffic whether in the circuit of a locla flying club or piloting the wonderful Boeing 747-400. To test my cognition this week (I was a little drowsy probably ill health) I increased the possible TCAS advisories on Aerowinx increasing the workload significantly & Aerowinx itself decided to throw in "aileron lockout" and "Flaps stiil down"; I suddenly had to think quickly about the solutions.
I did manage to get the aircraft doen in one piece but not before seeing my speed drop off significantly coming close to a stall or ensuring the FLAP Override on the First Officers side starting working. Which raises some questions:
1. Have you ever had a real TCAS warning/incident & what was the result?
2. Have you ever come close to running into another aircraft in the air?
I have it was my second solo & I stayed at 700 feet before turning final because their was another aircraft I couldn`t see & they came out from right under me before landing on 11 Left (11L) at Bankstown (YSBK); my heart skipped a beat.
3. Is air travel much safer because of TCAS Yes or No or
4. Do the Media blow out of proportin every Near Miss which is within limits just to get another ratings point? Your thoughts.
If you want to get real about ATPL (Airline Pilot Transport Licence) study try www.atpl.com, subscribe & you`ll get a daily question which is very challenging.
Kind regards from Oz,
Neil
PS May all of your "hairy" landings be good ones.
