The AEROWINX challenge for 2017

This year hopefully with access to former operational flight crew my goal is to increase the outreach and effectiveness of the blog.

The trainer in me  has decided to take you through as many Aerowinx .situ scenarios as possible & share the lessons learned.

A good way to "blow away the cobwebs" when first starting up the B744 cockpit scenario is to simply fly the default.situ  and set up as many 'random' emergencies as possible.

In the snapshot above which I flew this morning there has been an engine fire on Number 1 engine at 200 feet, while on final.

In an ideal world the PNF (Pilot Not Flying) would have called the fire, and shut down the engine while pulling back on throttle lever number 1 so it can`t interfere with the landing operations.

However I`ve chosen to simply continue the approach & call the tower for emergency services to come & support the airframe when exiting the runway.
Note: i am on VHF 120.5 the YSSY Tower frequency

I realise some of you will probably agree/disagree with me.

Tell me what you would have done remembering many single pilot regional airliners are faced with this level of decision making every day.

Till next time from  sunny Sydney,

Neil
